  • Sony registered the patent of a voice assistant called Playstation Assistant that could be the brand’s next big feature to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox
  • The product would be focused on gaming interactions and could count with a mobile version in addition to the console program
  • The release is not yet confirmed

Sony could have a new weapon to fight against Xbox in the video games market. Following the huge success of voice assistants such as Siri and Alexa, the upcoming Playstation console might include a voice assistant specifically created for gaming interactions, according to Forbes

Unlike other famous voice assistants that have general features, Sony’s release will offer the user the option to ask for complementary information about the game while playing, schedule collective games with friends, or even learn new strategies to face the challenges of famous games.

“For example, when a player gets stuck on a part of a gaming application, the player can request help through a query to a back-end game assist server.”

Daniel Ahmad, an industry analyst, in an interview for Forbes.

A mobile app could be also launched to complement the features of the voice assistant, offering an easy way to follow the achievements accomplished during the games, such as trophies earned, for instance.

Sony has already registered a patent of the voice assistance software called Playstation Assistant, explaining in the document that the product could offer “a running conversation with an automated gaming assistant (e.g., gaming butler/navigator) during the game play that is configured to provide psychological and informational support to the player,” according to Forbes.

Although, this doesn’t mean that the product will actually be released, for the brand hasn’t confirmed the feature on the next Playstation yet. But if we follow the trends of big techs, it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that there is a strong possibility that Sony’s voice assistant could become real soon.
