DiDi Food boosts presence in Mexico to five more cities

DiDi's food delivery subsidiary also expanded deliveries for pharmacies and convenience stores

  • DiDi Food announced its expanding to Aguascalientes, Toluca, Chihuahua, Torreón, and Saltillo in the Latin American country;
  • So far, the company has been operating in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey;
  • The app will also enable deliveries of products from convenience stores and pharmacies, in an effort to encourage people to stay home during the pandemic.

Beijing-based DiDi, parent company of DiDi Food has announced this Wednesday that is expanding its food delivery service to five more cities in Mexico, according to a company press release.

DiDi Food announced that registration is already available for restaurants and delivery partners in Aguascalientes, Toluca, Chihuahua, Torreón, and Saltillo, which will join the three cities in which the app currently operates: Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

“Leveraged by the technology and logistics that we already have with food delivery, we are facilitating the digitization of new businesses so that they can sell their products quickly and easily and thus satisfy the needs of users, further promoting their safeguarding in home,” Maria Pia Lindley, Ops Lead at DiDi Food North & South MX stated in the press release.

The company also expanded its restaurant food delivery offering to deliveries of products from convenience stores and pharmacies, in an effort to encourage people to stay home during the pandemic.

As 87% of the restaurants affiliated with DiDi Food are SMB; since the start of the lockdown, the company has recorded 45% increase in sales for partner restaurants. So far, restaurant registry has also grown to 75% weekly, while delivery partners’ additions rose up to 250% weekly.
