65% of Brazilians will give themselves gifts this Christmas

17% of them admitted that they simply use Christmas as an excuse to buy gifts

A survey by the Credit Protection Service (SPC Brazil) and the National Confederation of Retail Directors and Shopkeepers (CNDL) in the country found that 65% of Brazilian consumers will give themselves this Christmas.

According to Gazeta do Povo newspaper, the number is 11 percentage points higher compared to last year. In absolute numbers, there are 101.6 million Brazilians who will buy gifts for themselves, and who should inject nearly BRL 36 billion into the economy.

According to the survey, the main cause of self-giving this year is emotional appeal: 51% of respondents said they would take the time to buy some product they need; 30% said they will perform because they worked so hard in 2019; and 17% admitted that they use Christmas as an excuse to buy the gift.
