The e-commerce giant inaugurates its service with an aggressive pricing strategy

Amazon Prime will offer free shipping in up to 48 hours

Launched this Tuesday (10), Amazon Prime arrived in Brazilian territory, bringing with it many new features for consumers–among them, a broad package with access to music, books, games, TV series, and films through streaming.

Yet beyond streaming, one of the biggest highlights of the launch will benefit online purchases: the e-commerce giant announced that, included in the monthly plan of BRL 9.90, Amazon Prime will also offer free shipping in deliveries of 48 hours. This is the most complete global launch of the subscription, linking content products with e-commerce services under a single plan.

Without a minimum purchase value, free shipping will be available for any Brazilian address and covers the category of products that operates under the 1P model; that is, the model in which the company controls the entire structure, including purchase, storage, logistics, and delivery. Up to now, there are 550 thousand items and more than 20 categories of products included–yet the number of items and categories will only grow from here on out.

The 48 hour express delivery is already available to a limited number of 90 cities, covering the metropolitan regions of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Belo Horizonte, as well as the capitals and main cities of the regions of the South and Southeast of Brazil, according to the information provided by Brazil Journal.

With new and attractive benefits–such as the competitive monthly price of BRL 9.90 for the multi-package or the annual plan of BRL 89.90–and free shipping without a minimum purchase value, Jeff Bezos’ giant is without a doubt putting effort in taking a leadership role in Brazil, amidst big national retailers. In comparison, competitors such as B2W, own Submarino Prime, which operates in free and quick delivery for BRL 79.90 in the annual plan for 2500 cities in the South and Southeast of Brazil. Mercado Livre, on the other hand, delivers 40% of products in up to 2 days and has free shipping for products above BRL 120 in the country.
